I am a Slovak composer currently residing in Slovakia. I’ve been developing my path as a solo performer using electronics, live-electronics in combination with “object trouvé” finding its musical expression, as well as my own DIY sound objects, which I designed and constructed during my studies on the University of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava.
Focusing on technology and live-electronics I developed tools of musical programming, which have been enabling me to approach my solo performances, as well as chamber and ensemble music in a more distinct way. Incorporating these two fields – the classical acoustic with electronics, I have been building digital systems designed for performance, which are providing space for improvisation and therefore more open way of interpretation, as well as notating scores.
The musical practice I have been involved in is wide – playing in ensembles – VENI academy (winning 1st price on Radio Head Awards – Recording of a year in 2013), VENI ensemble, playing as a guest in Dunami ensemble, interpreting contemporary and experimental music, playing as a duo: Barbora Tomášková (piano) + Rozália Miklášová (violin), playing in my own music band interpreting my music to solo playing – experimental performing as well as solo piano playing (repertoire composed of pieces of the second half of the 20th century). I have been cooperating with film makers composing music for more documentary and animation movies winning many prices on european festivals. I’ve also been involved in composing music for theatre-dance projects.
My music has been performed in european countries on festivals of young contemporary music (Slovakia, Austria, Hungary, Czech Republic, Portugal, Spain, Georgia).
I gained much experience studying Masters degree of Composition on Escola Superiora de Música e Artes do Espetáculo in Porto.
Barbora Tomášková holds Masters degree in Composition from the Academy of Music and Performing Arts in Bratislava as well as Bachelor diploma from the University of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava (Sculpture, object, installation).
